Frackville is a borough of Schuylkill County in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States .
geography
Frackville is 10 kilometers north of Pottsville and is affected in the south by the Interstate 81 highway. Wilkes-Barre is about 70 kilometers to the north. Harrisburg to the southwest is approximately 90 kilometers away.
History
The first settlers settled in the town around 1861, which was named after its founder Daniel Frack and which in 1876 was united with some neighboring communities to form the Borough Frackville . After significant deposits of anthracite coal were found in the area , the place grew rapidly. Since alternative energy sources were increasingly used after the Second World War , the number of inhabitants decreased again.
Demographic data
In 2011 a population of 3,804 people was determined, which means a decrease of 12.8% compared to the year 2000. The mean age of residents in 2011 was 44.7 years, slightly higher than the Pennsylvania mean of 43.3 years.
The main early immigrant groups in the city were 21.4% from Germany, 20.2% from Ireland , 15.3% from Poland and 11.2% from Lithuania .
