James Worrall

James "Jim" Worrall (born June 23, 1914 in Bury , England , † October 9, 2011 in Toronto ) was a Canadian hurdler and sports official of British origin.

Athletic career

In 1934, he won silver over the 120 yard hurdles at the British Empire Games in London and was fourth over the 440 yard hurdles.

At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, he was eliminated from both the 110 m hurdles and the 400 m hurdles in the preliminary run.

In 1933 he became Canadian champion in high jump and in 1934 over 440 yard hurdles.

Administrative career

From 1964 to 1968 he was President of the Canadian Olympic Committee . From 1967 to 1989 he was a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In 1989 he became an IOC honorary member.

In 1976 he was honored as Officer of the Order of Canada and inducted into the Hall of Fame of Canadian Sports in 1987.
