Jan Christian Sahl

Jan Christian Sahl (* 1979 in Wiesbaden ) is a German lawyer and social entrepreneur .

Life

Sahl graduated from high school in Wiesbaden and did his community service in an institution for mentally disabled people in Belgium . He then studied economics and law at the University of Bonn and worked at the Institute for Canon Law there . The first and second state exams followed . After working for the Scientific Service of the German Bundestag and for the management consultancy Ernst & Young , Sahl worked as a lobbyist for the Federation of German Industry (BDI) from 2011 to 2017 , where he was a. a. dealt with tobacco, patent and digital policy. He has been teaching at the Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Economics and Law as a lecturer in constitutional and administrative law since 2012 . In 2018 he received his doctorate from the Law Faculty of the Humboldt University with a thesis on constitutional and European law supervised by Christian Waldhoff .

Political work

At the end of 2017, Sahl left the BDI and, with the support of former top politicians such as Norbert Lammert or Brigitte Zypries, founded the non-profit organization welobby , since, according to his own statement, “other groups would have a much greater need for lobbyists to stand up for them.” The organization represents non-commercial interests, that can be proposed by citizens and small NGOs .

Sahl is also part of the founding team of HateAid , an organization founded in 2018 to combat hate online .
