Welobby ( proper spelling welobby ) is a non-profit association based in Berlin . The aim of the association, founded in 2018, is to politically represent and enforce non-commercial and under-represented interests .

history

Welobby was in 2018 by the web developer Niklas Hofmann and the former BDI - lobbyists Jan Christian Sahl established. In addition, the foundation was supported by former top politicians such as Norbert Lammert and Brigitte Zypries .

Goals and work

According to its own statement, the aim of the organization is to give financially weaker interest groups a political voice and thus to function as a “lobby for everyone without a lobby”. In addition, lobbying should be transparent to the public. Lobbyism is recognized as "an indispensable part of a functioning democracy". Welobby wants to "democratize" lobbying through more equal opportunities and better transparency. For this purpose, private individuals or non-profit organizations can submit topic suggestions, which Welobby will check for their legal and political feasibility as well as other criteria. If the proposal successfully goes through public crowdfunding on the Welobby website, lobbying for the topic begins.

In addition, the association carries out educational work on the subject of lobbying, for example through lectures and courses at schools and universities.

subjects

2018 Compatible Welobby the club Prowo offering in Berlin places for assisted living for people with social difficulties. Since the association's rental contracts were subject to commercial leasing law, the people in the supervised living were largely unprotected under rental law. In December 2018, after lobbying , the Bundestag finally approved a change in tenancy law, which extended the usual tenant protection, for example against dismissals or rent increases, to this group of people. In addition, Welobby works for political measures to fight loneliness in old age, as well as for a better legal basis for alternative forms of living such as tiny houses .

reception

The founding of the organization met with a predominantly positive media response. The lobby-critical association Lobbycontrol rated Welobby as a “remarkable, creative initiative that starts in exactly the right place”.
