Social Impact is a German social enterprise that offers funding opportunities for business start-ups .

history

Social Impact was founded in 1994 under the name iq consult by Norbert Kunz to support socially or geographically disadvantaged , disabled and young people to become self-employed . A house on Muskauer Strasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg was rented for this as early as 1989, which was converted into the first Social Impact Lab in 2011 .

After the company began to focus more and more on social entrepreneurship , it was converted into the non-profit organization Social Impact gGmbH in 2013 . Social Impact has been a founding member of the Social Entrepreneurship Network Germany since 2017 . By the end of 2018, over 500 social start-up companies had received funding.

Funding offers

Various funding programs include scholarships for the Social Impact Labs, but also support in the form of coaching or funding.

Among other things, budding social enterprises and social initiatives, refugees and migrants , as well as the unemployed and young people with start-up plans are funded . Various funding programs are also offered.

In addition, Social Impact also offers start-up funding programs on a European and international level, as well as programs to promote innovation in the social economy .

Social Impact Labs

Social Impact Labs are coworking spaces that serve as start-up centers for social enterprises. There are currently eight labs across Germany. These offer scholarship programs for various start-up target groups, but also classic rental of office space and workplaces. In addition, coaching and networking events are offered.

After the first lab was founded in Berlin in 2011 , the second Social Impact Lab was launched in Hamburg in 2013 . In 2014 the Social Impact Labs were founded in Frankfurt am Main and Leipzig , and in 2015 the Lab in Potsdam . Labs in Stuttgart and Munich were then added in 2017 .

From 2016 to 2019 there was also a lab in Duisburg , and from 2018 to 2020 another lab in Bonn .

Well-known scholarship recipients of the Social Impact Labs are Auticon , GemüseAckerdemie , Kiron Open Higher Education , Original Unverpackt , renk. , Ruby Cup , Querstadtein , Quinoa Bildung , Über den Tellerrand and youvo.org .

The KfW Foundation, the Drosos Foundation , Generali , the Beisheim Foundation, JPMorgan Chase Foundation, the Deutsche Bank Foundation , the Vector Foundation, the Karl Schlecht Foundation , the Dohle Foundation and the Hans Weisser Foundation are among the largest supporters of the Social Impact offers .
