Jan Ekström (writer)

Jan Ekström (born November 2, 1923 in Falun ; † August 17, 2013 ) was a Swedish writer .

Life

Ekström studied economics , Slavic languages , English and statistics at Lund University . Finally he ran an advertising agency .

In 1961 Ekström made his debut as an author with the detective novel Döden fyller år , which later appeared in German under the title “The Letters of the Beautiful Swede”. He quickly achieved a certain popularity and his novels Träfracken and Morianerna were made into films shortly after their publication. While his books were initially set in Sweden, from the 1980s onwards he also used cities like Paris as the setting for the action. In addition to his detective novels, he published short stories and specialist articles in the economic press.

Ekström has received various awards for his work. In 1963 he was awarded the Sherlock Prize from the newspaper Expressen and in 1997 the Grand Master's diploma from the Svenska Deckarakademin .
