Jan Felix May
Jan Felix May (* 1993 in Mainz ) is a German jazz musician ( piano , composition ).
Live and act
May first received classical piano lessons and discovered jazz at the age of 13; at the age of 16 he led a radio band . Sebastian Sternal brought him to the Mainz University of Music as a young student , where he studied from 2012 to 2017; since then he has been working as a freelance musician, composer and arranger.
He recorded his first album Red Messiah (Jazzline 2018) under his own name with guest contributions by Torun Eriksen , Franzi Aller and Christian Brückner ; it was able to position itself as “album of the week” on SWR . He also worked with Vitold Rek & Young Spirit and with Minority .
Prizes and awards
May received four first prizes at Jugend jazzt as a soloist and with the combo between 2008 and 2011 . In 2016 he won the Soloist Prize in Burghausen and received with his band the 2nd prize of the European Burghauser Junior Jazz Prize .
