Jan Gonda
Jan Gonda (born April 14, 1905 in Gouda , † July 28, 1991 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch orientalist and religious scholar .
Gonda was one of the editors of the Handbuch der Orientalistik ( Handbook of Oriental Studies ) and contributed to the book series The Religions of Mankind in the volumes Veda and older Hinduism and The Younger Hinduism . He taught at the University of Utrecht . In 1972 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
