Jan Haarmeyer

Jan Haarmeyer (* 1957 in Hamburg ) is a German journalist . He was deputy editor of the Hamburger Morgenpost and Head of the Hamburger Abendblatt . He is also active as a song composer and lyricist.

Life

Jan Haarmeyer graduated from the Sankt Ansgar School in Hamburg in 1976 . He then studied business administration in Hamburg until 1981, graduating with a degree in business administration . On February 1, 1982, he joined the Hamburger Morgenpost. From volunteer (until 1984) to activities as reporter, editor, local manager and finally deputy editor-in-chief, he belonged to the newspaper until he left at his own request on December 31, 1998. From May to August 1998 he was editor-in-chief at the side of Hans-Jörn Muder. Jan Haarmeyer has worked for the Hamburger Abendblatt since 1999. Initially until 2008 as "Head of Sports" and since November 2008 as an author for all departments.

Since 2007 he has been a member of the six-member Hamburg band The Cruisers at the side of Anna Leenen, Christoph Bungartz , Andreas Engler, Andreas Zeil and Felix Leenen . In addition to interpreting rock, pop, folk and blues music from the 1960s to today, the group also performs original compositions by Jan Haarmeyer. He also composes children's songs (e.g. Flinki, the little island hopper), which are published by Elbtraum Verlag.

On September 24, 2017, the family musical Historicus, based on the children's and youth book of the same name by Irene Haarmeyer, premiered at the Hamburger Kammerspiele , for which Jan Haarmeyer composed and wrote the songs.

  • 2013 Theodor Wolff Prize in the local journalism category for the report In the Name of the People, at the expense of the child , which depicts the removal of a foster child from its foster parents.
  • Nomination for the media prize of Kindernothilfe (Print category) for In the name of the people, at the expense of the child .
  • 2013 nomination for the German Reporter Prize (together with his Abendblatt colleague Volker ter Haseborg) for the Hegestrasse file , in which the battle for an old building in Eppendorf between tenants and investors was described.
  • 2014 Journalism Award of the German Real Estate Industry (together with his Abendblatt colleagues Andreas Dey and Joachim Mischke) for the documentation request concert about the cost explosion during the construction of the Elbphilharmonie .
  • 2018 nomination and shortlist for the German Local Journalist Award of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for the report “The fight for David”.
