Jan Hijzelendoorn Jr. (Born March 20, 1929 in Amsterdam ; † October 22, 2008 in Uithoorn ) was a Dutch cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

He began his career in 1948 and remained active until 1959. Hijzelendoorn was a participant in the 1948 and 1952 Summer Olympics . He was always at the start in the track sprint . In the Olympic competition in the 1000 meter time trial in 1952, he was classified in the victory of Russell Mockridge in 8th place.

When Maurice Verdeun won the UCI-Bahn World Championships for Amateurs in 1950, he won the bronze medal.

In 1948 he won the most important international track race , which was held in Great Britain at that time, he won the Champions of Champions Trophy (a sprint tournament). He was able to repeat this victory in 1951. He also won the Grand Prix of Manchester that year .

He won the Copenhagen Grand Prix in 1950 ahead of Antonio Maspes . In 1952 he was able to win again in this race, the German Werner Potzernheim was third.

From 1948 to 1954 he won the championship in the sprint of the amateurs in the Netherlands.

His father Jan Hijzelendoorn sr. was also a cyclist and track sprinter. His son Jan Hijzelendoorn was a baseball player and a member of the Dutch national team.
