Jan Lam

Jan Pawel Ferdynand Lam (born January 16, 1838 in Stanislau / Stanisławów , Galicia , † August 3, 1886 in Lemberg ) was a journalist and writer of Polish nationality in the Danube Monarchy .

Lam, offspring of a family who immigrated to Austria from Hanau , studied law and philosophy at the University of Lemberg from 1855 to 1859 , took part in the Italian campaign as a cadet , took part in the Polish uprising of 1863 with the rank of captain and then lived as an editor in Lemberg .

He gained a great reputation as a humorist, particularly through his weekly chronicles published in various newspapers. He also wrote a number of stories such as:

  • The war commissioner ,
  • Miss Emilia ,
  • Heads to be gilded ,
  • Idealists ,
  • Weird careers ,

and others, all of which have a caustic, satirical edge.
