Jan O'Sullivan ( maiden name: Jan Gale ) (born December 6, 1950 in Clonlara , County Clare ) is an Irish politician with the Irish Labor Party .

Life

After studying at Trinity College (Dublin) and University College Cork at the National University of Ireland, Jan O'Sullivan worked as a teacher at a pre-school and most recently at a secondary school . Your political career first began in local politics and was at the 1991 local elections for the Irish Labor Party in the constituency Limerick No 2 for a member of the City Council of Limerick ( Limerick City Council selected).

After an unsuccessful candidacy in 1992 for a mandate in the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ) , she was elected as a member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ) in 1993 and belonged there to the interest group of the workers until 1997. She was also Mayor of Limerick from 1993 to 1994 .

On March 11, 1998, she was finally at a by-election ( by-election ) as MPs ( Member of Dáil Éireann ) elected to the House of Commons and took this to 2011, the interests of the constituency Limerick East . During this time she was also Vice-Chair of the Joint Committee on Education and Science in the Irish Parliament ( Oireachtas ) between 2002 and 2007 .

In the 2011 general election she was elected as Teachta Dála for the constituency of Limerick City for the Irish Labor Party and was Minister of Education from July 12, 2014 to May 6, 2016.

She lost her mandate in the 2020 elections for Dáil Éireann .
