Jan Sandmann (born May 3, 1978 in Burg (near Magdeburg) ) is a former German soccer player and current soccer coach .

Career

Jan Sandmann began his career as a midfielder with SG Blau-Weiß Niegripp before moving to 1. FC Magdeburg , where he first played in his youth. For the 1996/97 season he then made the leap into the regional league squad.

In the summer of 2000 he made a free transfer from the regional to the Bundesliga for Hamburger SV , where he stayed for two years. During this time he came to appearances in the Champions League in the games against Brøndby IF and AS Roma . However, he was unable to assert himself as a regular player and only made six appearances in the Bundesliga, which meant that he moved, also free of charge, to the then second division club 1. FC Union Berlin , where he scored 1 goal in 53 games as a regular player. He was also retrained from midfielder to defender during his time in Berlin.

Sandmann's last club station was the regional league team Holstein Kiel . In his first two years he played 61 games and scored 6 goals, in 2006/07 he only played 6 regional league and 2 league games (for the 2nd team) due to injury, and thus had little chance of preventing Holstein from relegating to the league. In the first half of the 2007/08 season, Sandmann was a regular player and only missed one game. For almost the whole of 2008 he had to go without missions due to a serious injury. He was only used again in the last two games before the 2008/09 winter break. But the bad luck with injuries haunted him. In the first game after the winter break, the top game against his old club 1. FC Magdeburg, Jan Sandmann broke his right medial ankle. In summer 2009 he announced the end of his career and will work as a scout at Kiel in the future. From the 2010/2011 season, he then acted as assistant coach under the then coach Thorsten Gutzeit. Sandmann will continue this work from summer 2013 under the new coach Karsten Neitzel in the 3rd division .

On August 16, 2016, Sandmann and Neitzel were released from his duties. Since the beginning of September 2017 he has been working as a scout for 1. FC Nürnberg .
