Jan Schäfer

Jan Schäfer (born October 18, 1974 in Dresden ) is a German canoeist .

At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Schäfer was silver medalist in a four-person kayak over 1000 m with Mark Zabel , Björn Bach and Stefan Ulm . At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 he finished 6th with Marco Herszel in a two-man kayak over 1000 m and then ended his career.

At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 , Schäfer took part as a reserve driver, but then repeatedly qualified for the national team. At the 1999 World Cup, he and Olaf Winter won the bronze medal in a two-man kayak over 1000 m. At the EM 2000 in Poznan, he won two gold medals in a four-person kayak.

Schäfer achieved his success in canoe racing for KG Essen . Before that he started for the TG Würzburg-Heidingsfeld and KS Kassel.
