Olaf Winter (canoeist)
Olaf Winter (born July 18, 1973 in Neustrelitz ) is a former German racing canoeist .
Winter began his career in canoe racing at WSV Einheit Neustrelitz and was later delegated to SC Neubrandenburg . In 1996 he moved to KG Essen .
At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he and Thomas Reineck , Detlef Hofmann and Mark Zabel became Olympic champion in a four-man kayak over 1000 m and received the silver laurel leaf with his four-man comrades. At the 1999 World Championships, he and Jan Schäfer won the bronze medal in a two-man kayak over 1000 m. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , he finished fourth with Andreas Ihle in a two-man kayak over 1000 m and then ended his career.
He then studied journalism and economic policy at the University of Dortmund . Between 2004 and 2010 he worked as a commentator for canoe transmissions for the television channel Eurosport .
Olaf Winter lives in Hattingen , is married and has three children.
