Jan Simonsen
Jan Simonsen (born March 3, 1953 in Stavanger - † August 12, 2019 ) was a Norwegian politician . Between 1979 and 1983 he was a member of the Stavanger City Council. From 1989 to 2005 he was a member of the Norwegian Parliament in Storting . Simonsen was elected for the Progressive Party , but was expelled from the party in autumn 2001. In 2002 he joined the anti-immigrant micro-party Democrats . In 2003, he came under fire when he suggested George W. Bush and Tony Blair for their Iraq policy for the Nobel Peace Prize .
Jan Simonsen studied social science and history at the district university in Rogaland (today University of Stavanger ). He was unmarried and worked as a freelance journalist and book author until his death in August 2019.
His twin brother Åge Simonsen is a zoologist and politician of the Sosialistisk Venstreparti .
