The Schwabenverlag group of companies is a publishing group under the umbrella of Schwabenverlag Aktiengesellschaft .
history
The forerunner of the Schwabenverlag was in 1848 when the Catholic clergyman Florian Riess (1823-1882) published the Sunday paper for the Christian people and the Catholic folk and house calendar alongside the Deutsches Volksblatt . On December 20, 1875, the publishing house was converted into the German Volksblatt corporation under the management of Ferdinand Gottdang (1850-1925) and editor-in-chief Konrad Kümmel , a Catholic clergyman. The publisher was positioned as the leading Catholic daily press. The headquarters were in Stuttgart, the printing works were in Ellwangen and Aalen.
After the end of the First World War and the reconstruction of Germany, Schwabenverlag Aktiengesellschaft was founded on June 30, 1924 and expanded beyond Stuttgart to Ulm and Rottenburg. The publishing director Josef Vögele managed the publishing house beyond the Nazi era and World War II. In 1972 the company moved to Ruit on the Fildern .

The Schwabenverlag group is active in the fields of publishing, book trade and printing; its head office is in Ostfildern near Stuttgart , further branches are in Rottenburg, Ulm and Eschbach.
The publishing division includes the Katholisches Sonntagsblatt , the German edition of L'Osservatore Romano , Theo. The Catholic magazine , the magazines Dienst am Wort , WortGottesFätze , The Preacher and Catechist , Preadica Verbum , practice in the congregation , meditation , East-West , the international Catholic magazine Communio , Spatz , the international magazine for theology Concilium , the theological quarterly ThQ , the media and communication science journal Communicatio Socialis , the Dominican journal Wort und Antwort , the local newspaper for Germans from Hungary, our post office, and the journal for medical ethics .
The book division of Schwabenverlag was expanded in 1999 by Jan Thorbecke Verlag (founded 1912), in 2001 by Verlag am Eschbach , in 2006 by Matthias Grünewald Verlag , in 2007 by KlensVerlag and Rottenburger Kunstverlag Ver Sacrum and in 2010 by Verlag Patmos -Religion and the Süddeutsche Verlagsgesellschaft.
Schwabenverlag operates the Weltbild plus branches in Ellwangen and Rottenburg. The specialist book trade is located in Stuttgart and Ulm, the mail order book trade in Rottenburg. Technical facilities and printing plants are concentrated in the Süddeutsche Verlagsgesellschaft in Ulm and in Schwabenverlag media in Ostfildern.
The chairman of the board is Ulrich Peters, the chairman of the supervisory board is Clemens Stroppel.
