Jan van der Wiel (born May 31, 1892 in Breda , † November 24, 1962 in The Hague ) was a Dutch fencer .

successes

Jan van der Wiel took part in three Olympic Games . At the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 he was eliminated from the individual with the foil and the sword in the preliminary round, with the saber he finished fifth. He reached sixth place with the foil team. He finished the team competition with the saber with the Dutch team, which in addition to Van der Wiel also included Willem van Blijenburgh , Jetze Doorman , Arie de Jong , Salomon Zeldenrust , Henri Wijnoldy-Daniëls and Louis Delaunoij , behind Italy and France on the bronze medal . Four years later in Paris he only competed with the saber in the individual and with the team. In the individual, he did not get beyond the preliminary round, while he reached the final round with the team, in which he finished third behind Italy and Hungary . Together with Jetze Doorman, Maarten van Dulm , Arie de Jong, Hendrik Scherpenhuijzen and Henri Wijnoldy-Daniëls, he received another bronze medal. In 1928 he was in Amsterdam , again in the saber competitions, eleventh in the individual and fifth with the team.
