With the short story collection webbed Jana Volkmann was in 2012 her book debut. The "26 Metamorphoses" assembled in it all have female main characters and move between reality and fantasy.

Her story Stranger Words is about a young woman who wanders through antiquarian bookshops in Berlin looking for books with personal dedications . The authors' texts hardly play a role, she prefers to think up stories about the dedications and the people behind them. Gradually she loses touch with reality as she withdraws more and more from her own life into these made-up stories. Jana Volkmann also dealt with the subject of dedications in an essay in the weekly newspaper der Freitag . Here she investigates the question of whether dedications in books are still appropriate.

Her debut novel Daszeichen für Regen was published in autumn 2015 . Again, a young woman is at the center of the action. The protagonist Irene moves from Berlin to Japan to work as a maid in a hotel.
