Jang Sun-woo (born March 20, 1952 in Seoul ) is a South Korean film director . He is considered a provocateur, a bad boy among Korean filmmakers.

Jang studied anthropology at Seoul National University . During his studies he played in a theater group. In 1980 he was arrested for political activity and was imprisoned for six months. He then became a screenwriter. In 1986 he made his first film with a straw man, from 1988 also officially.
