Yangtze River overhead line crossing
The Yangtze River overhead line crossings are several different overhead line crossings for high-voltage lines on the Yangtze River in the People's Republic of China . Due to the width of the river and the need not to hinder navigability , these overhead line crossings have very high overhead line masts , which are among the highest masts in China.
Jiangyin
Map with all coordinates of the Jiangyin section : OSM
This is a 500 kV high voltage line for three-phase alternating current from the power plant Yan Cheng to the substation Dou Shan near the city of Jiangyin in the Chinese province of Jiangsu .
The section of the pipeline running over the Yangtze has a span of 2,303 meters. It is supported by two 346.5 meter high overhead line pylons, each weighing 4,192 tons. Both masts are designed as free-standing steel framework constructions with a cross-section of 68 meters × 68 meters at the bottom and 8 meters × 8 meters at the top and have two traverses to accommodate six conductor cables, which are attached to ten-meter-long insulators .
The lower of the two trusses is at a height of 302 meters and has a length of 77 meters. The masts are designed as so-called Danube masts . Both masts, which are not only significantly higher than all other overhead line masts , but also tower over the Eiffel Tower , are provided with a maintenance elevator.
On each side of the Yangtze River, the line is followed by two guy masts, one for each circuit . They are 55 meters high, weigh 110 tons and stand on an area of 16 meters × 24 meters. Construction of the masts began on November 8, 2002. They were completed on April 13, 2004. The line was put into operation on November 18, 2004.
Coordinates:
- North mast: 31 ° 58 ′ 18 ″ N, 120 ° 3 ′ 12 ″ E
- South mast: 31 ° 57 ′ 5 ″ N, 120 ° 2 ′ 54 ″ E
Wuhu
Map with all coordinates of the section Wuhu : OSM
This is the overhead line crossing of the HVDC Dreischluchtendamm – Changzhou , a bipolar high-voltage direct current transmission (HVDC) with ± 500 kV direct voltage , which crosses the Yangtze River near Wuhu on two 229-meter-high steel-tube pylons with a span of 1,910 meters. The two masts of the Yangtze River overhead line crossing in Wuhu are the tallest masts that have been erected for HVDC systems to date.
To the east and west of this line there is a further overhead line crossing of the Yangtze River for three-phase current.
Coordinates:
- West mast: 31 ° 30 ′ 37 ″ N, 118 ° 21 ′ 11 ″ E
- East mast: 31 ° 30 ′ 2 ″ N, 118 ° 22 ′ 11 ″ E
Nanjing
Map with all coordinates of the section Nanjing : OSM
The Nanking overhead line crossing is the junction of a 500 kV high voltage line for three-phase alternating current with the Yangtze River near Nanjing . The overhead line, completed in 1992, has two three-phase systems with three conductors each.
The masts are designed as 257 meter high reinforced concrete structures and are among the tallest reinforced concrete masts in the world. The span is 2,053 meters.
Coordinates:
- West mast: 31 ° 57 ′ 47 ″ N, 118 ° 36 ′ 58 ″ E
- East mast: 31 ° 57 ′ 11 ″ N, 118 ° 38 ′ 4 ″ E
