Janusz Kowalik (born March 26, 1944 in Nowy Sącz , Poland ) is a former Polish football player and coach .

Club career

Janusz Kowalik began his professional career at Cracovia Kraków in the Polish second division. In 1961 he rose with Cracovia and made his debut in the Ekstraklasa . In total, he played three seasons in the Ekstraklasa and five seasons in the Polish second division. In 1968 he emigrated to the USA and played there in the NASL for the Chicago Mustangs and the California Clippers (in 1968 he was the top scorer of the NASL with 30 goals). In 1969 he returned to Europe. He was signed by Sparta Rotterdam . Janusz Kowalik spent 5 seasons at Sparta before moving to league rivals NEC Nijmegen in 1974 . He also played in 1976 and 1977, each for a few months, with Chicago Sting in the USA and a total of three seasons with MVV Maastricht in the Netherlands . In 1980 he let his active career with the Belgian club Patro Eisden Maasmechelen end.

Coaching career

Kowalik's coaching career began at Patro Eisden Maasmechelen as a player- coach . He later looked after Vitesse Arnhem for six months . In autumn 1989 he took over the Greek club Ionikos Nikea , which he coached until April 1991. In 1992, Kowalik coached the Polish record champion Górnik Zabrze .
