Janusz Morgenstern (born November 16, 1922 in Mikulince near Tarnopol , Poland , today's Ukraine , † September 6, 2011 in Warsaw ) was a Polish film director and film producer .

Life

Janusz "Kuba" Morgenstern was the son of Dawid Morgenstern and Estera Druks, both Jews from Galicia . He studied directing at the Łódź Film School in the early 1950s and graduated in 1954. At the beginning of his career he was assistant director to Wanda Jakubowska and Andrzej Wajda . He assisted Wajda in his legendary films The Canal and Ashes and Diamond . He made his debut with a full-length feature film in 1960 with Auf Wiedersehen bis Morgen . In the 1960s and 1970s he created some popular Polish television series such as Stawka większa niż życie and Columbowie . For many years he was the artistic director of the Perspektywa film studio and began working as a film producer after the political change in 1989.
