Janusz Marian Majewski (born August 5, 1931 in Lemberg ) is a Polish film director , dramaturge and screenwriter .

Career

Majewski first studied architecture at the Technical University of Cracow , then film directing at the State Film School in Łódź , which he graduated in 1959.

After a few short films intended for television, he created his first comedy film "Sublokator" (The Subtenant) about a young scientist who is allocated a room in a villa inhabited by women by the housing office and who is pampered by the roommates against his will. His work, created in collaboration with the cameraman Kurt Weber , was one of the best comedies about the dreary everyday democratic life. The film was awarded a prize at the Mannheim International Film Week in 1966 .

He married the photographer Zofia Nasierowska.

Janusz Majewski was awarded the Officer's Cross in 2001 and the Commander's Cross of the Polonia Restituta Order in 2012. In 2009 he received the Gloria Artis Medal for Cultural Merit .

From 1983 to 1990 he held the post of Chairman of the Association of Polish Film Professionals, and since 2006 he has been its Honorary Chairman.

From 1969 to 1991 he was a lecturer at the Łódź Film School. He also taught in the United States . His students include a. Feliks Falk , Filip Bajon and Juliusz Machulski . Majewski has been the rector of the Warsaw Film School since 2012.
