Kurt Weber (cameraman)
Kurt Weber (born May 24, 1928 in Cieszyn ; † June 4, 2015 in Mainz ) was a Polish and German cameraman and film director of Jewish descent.
Life
Kurt Weber was born in 1928 as the son of Edward Weber (1897–1961), the last chairman of the Jewish community in Cieszyn.
After the outbreak of war in 1939, Kurt Weber and his parents fled to Soviet-occupied Lviv . In 1941, after the German invasion , they fled to Central Asia , where he learned to be a film projectionist in Leninabad ( Tajikistan ).
After the war he returned to Poland, moved to the Federal Republic of Germany, but soon returned to Poland to study the profession of cameraman at the Łodź film school , and soon became an assistant to Professor Stanisław Wohl.
In collaboration with Polish film directors, including Kazimierz Kutz , Tadeusz Konwicki , Janusz Majewski , Janusz Morgenstern and Aleksander Ścibor-Rylski , he created recordings for many Polish films.
After the anti-Semitic riots in March 1968 , he left Poland and settled in the Federal Republic. In Germany he was a cameraman in film projects by Dieter Wedel , Ludwig Cremer , Christian Ziewer , Peter Lilienthal , Egon Monk and others.
In 1979 he was appointed professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz .
