Japan Cup (horse racing)
The Japan Cup ( Japanese ジ ャ パ ン カ ッ プ , japankappu ) is the most highly endowed horse race in Asia.
At the group I - flat races are 3-year-old and older thoroughbreds to start. The Japan Cup has been held since 1981 at the Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu , a suburb of Tokyo in the Tokyo Prefecture , over 2,400 meters on turf (grass). The organizer is the Nippon Chūō Keibakai (English JRA).
The payout is ¥ 521 million yen (approx. $ 6.7 million), which is significantly less than the Dubai World Cup (2000M, synthetic surface ) but comparable to the A $ 6 million of the longer Melbourne Cup (3200M, Turf) and slightly more than the most lucrative European race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2,400M, Turf), at € 4 million .

In 1995 the German stallion Lando won .
The course record of 2:12 was set in 2002 by the European horse Falbrav , who was the only winner under 2:20 under Frankie Dettori .
