Dubai World Cup
The Dubai World Cup ( Arabic كأس دبي العالمي, DMG Kaʾs Dubayy al-ʿālamī ) is the horse race in the world with approximately 10 million dollars , along with the Pegasus World Cup with varying prizes. The race for 3-year-old and older thoroughbreds and will be held at the end of March / beginning of April in Dubai as part of the Dubai World Cup Night on the Meydan Racecourse on synthetic surface over a middle distance of 2000 meters.
The Group I race was founded in 1996 on the initiative of the then Crown Prince and current ruler Muhammad bin Raschid Al Maktum , who also owns the successful Godolphin racing team. It is the culmination of the Dubai World Cup Carnival, a series of events from January to March. The main events are 6 races of the Dubai World Cup Night (approx. $ 25 million endowment). Until 2009 they were held at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.
