The Jardin botanique de Porrentruy is a botanical garden in the city of Porrentruy (German: Pruntrut). It is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Switzerland. It was founded in 1798 by order from Paris after the Helvetic Republic had been annexed by France and Porrentruy had become the capital of the Mont-Terrible department . The botanical garden is now part of the Musée jurassien des sciences naturelles (MJSN; German: Jurassic Museum of Natural Sciences or Naturmuseum Pruntrut).

In the spring of 1799, the first plant took place on the initiative and under the leadership of the then professor at the École centrale , the priest Antoine Lémane (1749-1818). The site between the buildings of the École centrale (today's Lycée cantonal) was chosen as the location. The Museum of Natural History in Paris made around 240 types of seeds available. On April 17th that year, the department's central administration approved the construction of a Dutch greenhouse at the southern end of the garden.

This system was only preserved for a few years. Only in 1832 was another attempt made, with the area reduced by half and the focus on the vegetation of the Jura . The first plants were sown in 1833, construction work lasted until 1835. In 1839 the garden was enlarged and the greenhouse renovated.

After the Second World War, the garden was redesigned and divided into four areas, and new greenhouses were built in 1961. In 1970 a Jura garden was created to replace the previously existing Alpinum .

In 1972 the botanical garden was completely redesigned. Today it is home to the most important plant families , over 80 different types of roses , more than 180 types of irises - and varieties, a selection of poisonous plants and old vegetables. In the so-called Jura Garden, over 800 species of flowering plants from the Jura Mountains can be seen. The greenhouses are home to a variety of tropical flora , including carnivorous plants , orchids and cacti . In the park around the Jurassic Museum of Natural Sciences, which is also part of the botanical garden, an arboretum with old fruit varieties from the Ajoie has been planted. There is a Foucault pendulum at the entrance to the Botanical Garden .

The oldest parts of the garden are under federal monument protection, the rest under cantonal monument protection.
