Jared Goss
Jared du Pont Goss (born November 17, 1966 in San Francisco ) is an American art historian , curator and non-fiction author .
Life
family
Jared Goss is the son of investment banker Richard Wayne Goss II (1933-2015) and Michele du Pont Goss. He is a nephew of the 19th Director of Central Intelligence Porter Goss . His mother comes from the du Pont family .
Career
Jared Goss grew up in San Francisco. During his school years he attended the Fessenden School in West Newton , Massachusetts . He graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor's degree in architectural history . He received his masters degree in the history of the decorative arts from Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum / Parsons School of Design .
After graduating, he worked as an assistant curator in the European Decorative Arts and Sculpture Department at the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco . He then worked for over 20 years as an associate curator for modern and contemporary art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City . Here he was involved in the exhibitions Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1996), Cartier: 1900–1939 (1997) and American Modern, 1925–1940: Design for a New Age (2000). He curated the exhibitions Ruhlmann: Genius of Art Deco (2004) and Barcelona: Gaudi to Dali (2007). In 2007 he completed the installation of the Wisteria dining room designed by Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer around 1910 , a room with original furnishings in French Art Nouveau style , unique in America . His exhibition Masterpieces of French Art Deco (2009) formed the basis for his book French Art Deco (2014), in which he cataloged the museum's holdings. He is a board member of the Art Deco Society of New York and the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA). Goss now works as an independent art historian.
