Jarkko Sipilä
Jarkko Sipilä (* 1964 in Espoo ) is a Finnish writer . Jarkko Sipilä has worked as a journalist (police reporter) for many years and publishes crime novels . He also writes scripts. His favorite criminalist is Inspector Takamäki (2001). Sipilä cultivates a clear and direct language that calls things by their names.
From 1991 to 1996 he worked for the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat (the newspaper with the highest circulation in Finland). Since 1996 he has been working for the television station MTV3 . The first crime thriller appeared in 1996. His investigator Kari Takamäki was first introduced to the public in 2001. Takamäki works in Helsinki, which he knows like the back of his hand; he is a very competent investigator with enormous tenacity and an incorruptible overview. Takamäki hates politicians, keeps his distance from superiors and know-it-alls and likes to swear.
In 2005, Sipilä's first thriller was published in German (“The White Night of Death”). In 2009 he was awarded the Finnish Crime Prize for his novel Seinää vasten , published the previous year .
Work and work
Sipilä values John Grisham , but sees himself most influenced by a journalist from Helsingin Sanomat, Harri Nykänen . (Nykänen is also a character in his novels; a colleague of Inspector Takamäki.) As a writer, he sees himself mainly as a criminalist. The author prefers a realistic style as far as crime and the underworld have something to do with reality. Since he works as a journalist, he mainly has to work on weekends.

criticism
- to: The White Night of Death: The crime thriller, which is set mainly in the Helsinki area, is very exciting and an intellectual pleasure to read. All those involved are drawn to life and are reminiscent of the characters in a great crime film, which is not only about action, but also about the attention to detail. Anyone who knows Helsinki also has the pleasure of being able to identify individual locations where the action is.
