Jarosław Dąbrowski
Jarosław Dąbrowski (also Jaroslaw Dombrowski , [jaˈrɔswaf dɔmˈbrɔfskʲi] ; born November 13, 1836 in Żytomierz ; † May 23, 1871 in Paris ) was a Polish revolutionary democrat, leader of the “Reds” in the January uprising of 1863 in Poland and 1871 commander in chief of the Parisians Commune in France.
Live and act
Jarosław Dąbrowski served as an officer in the Russian army , took part in the January uprising of the Polish independence movement in 1863 and was exiled to Siberia . After his escape he went to France and became general of the Paris Commune . In May 1871 he became the commander in chief of the armed forces of the commune. He was killed in a barricade fight on Montmartre in Paris.
In the Spanish Civil War , a battalion named after him fought as part of the XI. International Brigade for the Republic .
