The Catholic Church Immaculate Conception is a listed church building in Egen , a church village in Wipperfürth in the Oberbergisches Kreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It belongs to the parish of St. Nikolaus Wipperfürth in the Archdiocese of Cologne .

History and architecture

The rectangular hall church , facing east, was built in 1850 at the instigation of Catholic citizens from Egen.

The building is 21.30 m long and 11.00 m wide. The walls are made of quarry stone. The choir with a round apse measuring 6.50 mx 6.35 m was added to the east in 1911. At the same time, a small sacristy room and the western tower in front with a base area of ​​5 m × 5 m were built. The tower has a height of 29.3 m, the tower spire consists of an octagonal onion , a lantern and the top. A total of four bells are installed in the tower. The sacristy was extended to the north in 1972 and a new altar was erected as part of a renovation . The church's furnishings are documented in terms of art history and photographs (St. Nikolaus Archive, Wipperfürth / Historical Archive of the Archdiocese of Cologne ).
