Jaroslav Chlebo is a diplomat from Slovakia . He is his country's ambassador to Indonesia , Brunei , Malaysia , East Timor , the Philippines , Singapore and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Career

Chlebo graduated from the Faculty of Law of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice in 1979 with a degree in international law . In 1986 Chlebo started working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of what was then Czechoslovakia (CSSR). From 1989 to 1992 he worked as press secretary at the embassy of Czechoslovakia in India , which became the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic (CSFR) in 1990 . With the independence of Slovakia on January 1, 1993, Chlebo became Chargé d'affaires of the Slovak embassy in India. He held the office until June 1994. After that he practiced for a short time in Bratislava as a lawyer in the private sector. After the National Council election in Slovakia in 1998 , Chlebo became State Secretary in the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MFEA) under Foreign Minister Eduard Kukan . Chlebo held the office until 2002. During this time, the government pushed for Slovakia to join NATO and the European Union . This was followed by various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director of the Department for International Economic Organizations (2007-2011) and Director of the Department of Cooperation in Development and Humanitarian Aid.

From 2002 to 2007 Chlebo held his first ambassadorial post to the Slovak Mission in Athens ( Greece ). From 2011 to 2015 he was the Slovak ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands . After all, he was Ambassador-at-Large for Migration Affairs in the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, before becoming ambassador again in 2019, this time to succeed Michal Slivovič , who is based in Jakarta . In addition to his responsibility for Indonesia , he is also accredited for Brunei, Malaysia, East Timor , the Philippines, Singapore and ASEAN.

On April 10, 2019, Chlebo presented his accreditation to ASEAN, on April 25th to President Halimah Yacob his accreditation for Singapore, on April 29th to Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah his accreditation for Brunei and finally on October 15th to President Francisco Guterres his accreditation for East Timor.

Chlebo is married to Jana Chlebova-Beckova. They have three children together. During his service as ambassador to Greece, Jaroslav Chlebo was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Phoenix .
