Jaroslav Zeman (musician)

Jaroslav Zeman (born April 6, 1936 in Horní Chvatliny , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech musician , conductor , composer and arranger .

Life

Jaroslav Zeman acquired his first musical knowledge from his father, who was the conductor. In 1954 Zeman began studying the trombone and baritone instruments at the military music school. After completing his studies, he became a musician in the military bands in Prague and Písek. From 1968 he studied conducting at the State Conservatory in Prague . Subsequently, Jaroslav Zeman was Kapellmeister of the military music Písek until 1975. This was followed by senior positions with the large wind orchestra of the Czechoslovak Army and from 1976 to 1989 with the local music in Prague. From 1989 until his retirement from military service in 1993, Zeman was the director of the military conservatory in Roudnice nad Labem . Jaroslav Zeman also became known in southern Germany through guest appearances as conductor and artistic director of the great amateur brass orchestra of the Czech Post and Telecommunications from Kolín . He wrote the first of his 45 compositions and around 200 arrangements for wind orchestra in 1954. The most famous works by Jaroslav Zeman are Gallop Wirbelsturm and Polka Prager Gassen .
