Jason Koumas (born September 25, 1979 in Wrexham , Wales ) is a former Welsh professional footballer.

During his active career he played in the Premier League, among others . For the Welsh national team , he played 34 games in which he scored ten goals.

Club career

The son of a Cypriot Greek and an Englishwoman began his career in 1998 with his youth club Tranmere Rovers . After four years in Tranmere, he moved to the then Premier League promoted West Bromwich Albion . In 2004 he signed a new contract in West Bromwich, but under the new coach Bryan Robson he lost his regular place and therefore moved to Cardiff City on loan after another year . In 2006 he returned to West Bromwich Albion after a failed purchase from Koumas. In the summer of 2007 he moved to Wigan Athletic , in 2010 again on loan to Cardiff City. From the summer of 2011 Jason Koumas was without a club, before he joined his youth club Tranmere Rovers in 2013. After two years he ended his active career.

National team career

Koumas made 34 appearances for Wales and scored 10 goals. However, he was denied a major tournament. In 2003 he failed in the relegation games for qualifying for the 2004 European Football Championship in Portugal to Russia . After he wrested 0-0 with Wales in the first leg in Moscow Russia, Koumas lost 0-1 with Wales in Cardiff . In September 2009 he resigned from the national team.
