Jaszczurówka (Zakopane)
The Jaszczurówka is a district of the Polish city of Zakopane in the Western Tatras in the powiat Tatrzański in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship .
location
The district is located on the Panoramaweg Oswald-Balzer-Weg at an altitude of 886 meters above sea level directly on the border with the Tatra National Park at the foot of the Dolina Olczyska valley .
history
The place was laid out as a spa in the 19th century, as thermal springs occur in the area that were used from 1839. The thermal waters were examined in 1861 and a spa was established in 1861–62, as well as other spas in 1891. Henryk Sienkiewicz was one of the spa guests . Today the area of the spas is located in the area of the Tatra National Park and is no longer used. In 1904 the Chapel of the Heart of Jesus was built in the Zakopane style by Stanisław Witkiewicz .
etymology
The name can be translated as "lizard place", whereby it goes back to the fire salamanders that appear here .
