The Rio Javari , on the Peruvian side Río Yavarí , is an approximately 1050 km long right tributary of the Amazon , which runs along the border between Brazil and Peru .
The Javari forms the border between Peru (left bank) and Brazil for almost its entire length. It rises in Peru in the Sierra de Contamana in the Ucayali region . At Benjamin Constant the Javari flows into the Amazon , its mouth forms three arms and two islands, called Islândia and Petrópolis . The river meanders strongly and is only navigable in its lower reaches.
