Jazz Jennings (born October 6, 2000 in Florida ) is an American LGBT activist, reality TV actress and author . She achieved international fame through her reports on her life as a transgender teenager that appeared on the Internet and on television .

Life

Jennings was born in the US state of Florida to Greg and Jeanette Jennings in a Jewish family. The name "Jennings" is a pseudonym her family uses to protect public privacy .

From a very young age Jennings had repeatedly made it clear to her parents that she wanted to live as a girl. In 2004, she was diagnosed with gender identity disorder. Shortly thereafter, she began therapy aimed at gender reassignment . She later underwent the necessary surgical procedures and hormone therapy for this purpose .

Internet and TV career

Jennings reports extensively on the Internet and in TV programs about her life as a transgender teenager and her experiences with her therapy as well as the therapy-accompanying gender reassignment measures. She became known to a wider audience through an interview with TV journalist Barbara Walters in 2012. Numerous other appearances on talk shows and other TV formats followed. She is currently shooting the fifth season of the reality TV series I Am Jazz (German: I am jazz) with the TV broadcaster TLC . She also reports on her life as a young trans woman in her own YouTube channel.

Bullying allegations

Jennings claims to have been the victim of mostly anonymous personal attacks and cyber bullying over the course of her life . She also received hateful phone calls. The constant attacks are partly responsible for the fact that she suffers from depression and sometimes even thought of suicide .

In November 2017, actor Derick Dillard said on the short message service Twitter that Jenning's parents agreed to sex reassignment for their child to promote an LGBT-friendly "agenda". He had previously referred to Jennings' reality TV show as " oxymoron " because her identity as a woman was not real ( "What an oxymoron ... a 'reality' show which follows a non-reality" ). He pity Jennings because she was "exploited" by her environment. The gender of man is not malleable, but “given by God”. In his tweets he used the masculine form of the personal pronoun for Jennings . Dillard's comments have been widely labeled as transphobic in the media . In response to his tweets, Dillard was fired from a reality show by TLC television . In addition, TLC announced that the station no longer wanted to work with Dillard in the future.
