Jean-Baptiste Cazet SJ (born July 31, 1827 in Jurançon , Département Pyrénées-Atlantiques , France , † March 6, 1918 in Tananarive , Madagascar ) was a French bishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Cazet was ordained a priest on May 23, 1861. Pius IX appointed him on August 6, 1872 Apostolic Prefect of Madagascar. Leo XIII. appointed him on May 5, 1885 titular Bishop of Sozusa in Palestine and Apostolic Vicar of Madagascar. Florian-Jules-Félix Desprez , Archbishop of Toulouse , consecrated it on October 11, 1885 in Rosaire, Lourdes with the assistance of Victor-Jean-François-Paulin Delannoy , Bishop of Aire and Dax , and François-Marie Duboin , former Vicar Apostolic of Senegambia , to the bishop. In 1898 the name of the Vicariate was changed to Vicariate Apostolic of Central Madagascar and he became Vicar Apostolic of Central Madagascar. On August 30, 1911, he resigned from his position.
