from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jean François d'Aubuisson de Voisins (born August 17, 1769 (1762?) In Toulouse , † August 20, 1841 there ) was a French engineer and geologist. From 1797 to 1802 he studied geology and mineralogy with Abraham Gottlob Werner at the Bergakademie Freiberg (Saxony) . His date of birth is also given in some sources as 1762 or April 16, 1769, and the date of his death as August 21, 1841.

The poet Novalis learned mathematics from him in private lessons.

In 1803 he wrote a treatise on basalt and published it in Paris. In 1819 a textbook on geognosy ("Knowledge of the Earth") followed with a second edition in 1828. He also wrote a textbook on hydraulics , also in two editions (1834 and 1840). From 1817 to 1828 he dealt with the water supply and distribution in Toulouse.

The Darcy-Weisbach equation is said to come from him (1834) and Julius Weisbach instead of Henry Darcy and Weisbach.
