biography

Jean-Georges Lossier, born as the son of a watchmaker in the old town of Geneva, studied sociology at the University of Geneva after graduating from high school . He completed his studies in 1937 with a dissertation on Proudhon . At the same time he completed his apprenticeship as a composer with Joseph Lauber at the end of the 1920s . However, he gave up composing towards the end of the 1930s and turned (mainly) to lyric poetry; In addition, between 1961 and 1976 he wrote regular literary reviews for the daily newspaper Journal de Genève and contributions for Radio Suisse Romande .

Lossier worked all his life at the ICRC , where he was editor-in-chief of the Revue Internationale de la Croix Rouge from 1950 to 1976 . Habilitated in 1948 , he was also a lecturer in sociology at the University of Geneva from 1949 to 1955 .

In 1939 his first volume of poetry, Saison de l'espoir , was published in Paris . This was followed by a few more at more or less long intervals: they were all brought out in 1995 under the title Poésie complète .

Jean-Georges Lossier died at the age of 92 near his native Geneva.
