Jean-Marie Dufour

Jean-Marie Dufour (* 1949 ) is a Canadian economist and university professor . At the center of his scientific work is economics and its description using statistical and econometric methods.

Career, research and teaching

After Dufour graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics in 1971 , he graduated two years later from the University of Montreal as a Master of Science . Until 1974 he also studied economics at Concordia University . Here, as four years later at the University of Chicago , he completed his Master of Arts before receiving his Ph.D. Left Chicago.

Parallel to his studies, Dufour had worked from 1973 at the Collège Édouard-Montpetit , a Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel . In 1978 he returned to the University of Montreal as a lecturer in economics, and a year later he took on the post of assistant professor at the university . In 1983 he was promoted to associate professor before he was appointed full professor in 1988. During his work in Montreal, he held several visiting professorships and taught at the University of Lausanne , the University of Pennsylvania , the University of Tunis and the University of Toulouse , among others . From 2001 he held the Canada Research Chair at the University of Montreal. In 2007 he followed a call to McGill University, where he took the William Dow Chair .

In addition to his scientific work, Dufour was involved in research and teaching in various research institutions. Between 1998 and 2001 he directed the fortunes of the Société canadienne de science économique and between 2002 and 2003 of the Canadian Economics Association as president. He has also received several awards for his work.
