Jean-Marie Girault

Jean-Marie Girault (born February 9, 1926 in Pont-l'Évêque , † May 1, 2016 in Caen ) was a French politician ( UDF ) and mayor of Caen.

biography

Girault studied at the Law Faculty of the University of Caen . There he passed his diploma in private and public law . In July 1944 he became involved in the emergency team of the French Red Cross for those injured in the bombing.

From December 1947 to 1998 he was an attorney at the Caen Court of Appeals.

In 1959 he became a member of Caen City Council. After the death of the previous mayor, Jean-Marie Louvel , he became his successor in 1970. Brigitte Le Brethon became his successor in 2001 . He was an honorary citizen of Würzburg , Caen's twin town.

From 1971 to 1998 Girault was a member of the French Senate .
