It was created with effect from January 1, 2019 as the Commune nouvelle of the same name through the amalgamation of the previous municipalities of Pont-l'Évêque and Coudray-Rabut , which, however, were not granted the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Pont-l'Évêque.

The place is located at the mouth of the Calonne River in the Touques , whose basin forms the Pays d'Auge . This is why Pont-l'Évêque is also called Porte du Pays d'Auge , the gateway to the Pays d'Auge.
