Jean-Marie Moeglin

Jean-Marie Moeglin (born April 16, 1955 in Lille ) is a French historian .

Jean-Marie Moeglin studied humanities from 1972 to 1975. From 1975 to 1981 he attended the École normal supérieure . In 1982 he received his doctorate. His academic teacher was Bernard Guenée . Moeglin received a scholarship from the Historisches Kolleg in 1990/1991 . In 1992 he completed his habilitation. From 1992 to 2010 he taught as professor of medieval history at the University of Paris XII . Moeglin has been Directeur d'études at the École pratique des hautes études since 1995 . Since 2010 he has been a professor of medieval history at the University of Paris IV . In 2012 Moeglin was appointed to the scientific advisory board of the German Historical Institute in Paris .

Moeglin's main research interests are German history in the Middle Ages, the history of medieval historiography, the history of political rituals in the Middle Ages and the transfer of culture between France and Germany in the Middle Ages. Moeglin is a leading expert on Franco-German relations in the Middle Ages, the political structures of the two countries and their cultural contacts. For his study published in 2002 on the citizens of Calais during the Hundred Years War , he was awarded the 2003 Grand prix d'histoire du printemps by the Société des gens de lettres . In 2010 he published a report on the relations between the Roman-German Empire and the Kingdom of France after the Battle of Bouvines up to 1500. His aim is that in Franco-German history “all aspects of the existing relations between the two countries during the last centuries of the Middle Ages ”.

Since 2003 Moeglin has been a corresponding member of the Central Directorate Monumenta Germaniae Historica and a member of the Konstanz working group for medieval history . He has been a corresponding member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres since 2013 . In 2015 he became a corresponding member of the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature .
