Jean-Marie Zoellé (born November 16, 1944 in Sierentz ; † April 6, 2020 in Bonn ) was a French local politician and from 2011 mayor of Saint-Louis in the Haut-Rhin department .

Life

Zoellé has been Deputy Mayor under Jean Ueberschlag , Mayor of Saint-Louis , since 1989 . When Ueberschlag resigned in 2011, Zoellé took over his office. Most recently, Zoellé was re-elected in the local elections on March 15, 2020 with 84.03% of the votes cast in the first ballot. Zoellé himself had described holding the local elections as a mistake in view of the COVID-19 pandemic in France .

Soon after, Zoellé fell ill with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and was treated in a hospital in Mulhouse . On March 28, he was transferred from there to Germany to the St. Petrus Hospital in Bonn . He died there on April 6th at the age of 75 as a result of COVID-19 .

Zoellé was married and had children.
