Jean-Paul Goude (* 1940 ) is a French graphic designer , illustrator , photographer and advertising film director. He created well-known advertisements for brands such as Perrier , Citroën and Chanel .

Life

Goude is the son of an American dancer and a French father. He spent childhood and school in Saint-Mandé , a petty-bourgeois suburb of Paris. At his father's request, he attended the technically oriented Lycée Voltaire, but switched to the Académie de la Grande Chaumière after failing at school. During this time he became interested in film, especially in the American musical . He took dance lessons with the aim of becoming a musical director. In 1962 he spent the summer months in New York City, had lessons at the American Ballet Center under Robert Joffrey , who advised him against a dance career. After his return to Paris he was invited by Kimpy Baumgartner to become the artistic director of the Printemps department store and was successful in the field of fashion illustration. He lived in New York until 1976, where he was Art Director at Esquire . In 1972 he was successful as a stylist for model Radiah , followed by recordings for Esquire and Playboy. In the following years he also worked in advertising photography (including for Chanel , Hermés, Gaultier, Lagerfeld) and took on the artistic direction of the bicentenary of the French Revolution. From 2001 he worked for the Galeries Lafayette 's advertising presence .

He has a son named Paulo with the artist Grace Jones .
