Jean-Pierre Aellen (born July 29, 1945 ) is a Swiss politician ( PSA ).

Life

Aellen grew up in Saint-Imier . He came to Tavannes as a young teacher in the early 1970s . He joined the SP there, became secretary of the SP Tavannes and soon afterwards its interim president. When the SP split into the loyal Parti socialiste du Jura bernois and the separatist Parti socialiste autonome du Sud du Jura in the 1970s , Aellen became a member of the PSA. In 1977 he became the first PSA municipal councilor in the Bernese Jura . He was a member of the Inter-Jurassic Assembly for several years and has been a member of the Bern-Jurassic Council since it was founded. From 2008 to 2009 he was president of the latter. 2001 Aellen became the mayor elected by Tavannes. In November 2009 he was voted out of office when he was defeated by his opponent from the SVP .

He has also been a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern for the constituency of the Bernese Jura since June 1, 1990, where he is a member of the SP-JUSO-PSA parliamentary group. In November 2013, Aellen and his two party colleagues Irma Hirschi and Maxime Zuber caused a scandal in the Grand Council when they left the Grand Council chamber in protest against Bernese flags on their desks, as this would represent “an unnecessary and despicable affront” for the PSA. The flags were set up in a reaction by the SVP to a regional vote on November 24, 2013 in which 71.8% of those eligible to vote in the Bernese Jura were against the merger with the canton of Jura, without consulting the President of the Grand Council.
