Jean-Pierre Azéma

Jean-Pierre Azéma (* 1937 ) is a French historian who specializes in the time of the German occupation of France in World War II, the Resistance and collaboration in the Vichy regime .

Azéma is a student of René Rémond . He was a professor at the Lycée Henri-IV and taught at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris . Azéma was one of the first historians in France to deal with the Vichy regime in the 1960s.

He was also a scientific advisor at the François-Mitterrand Institute. He is close to the socialists and supported Ségolène Royal .

Azéma is one of the writers of the film L'Œil de Vichy (The Eye of Vichy) by Claude Chabrol , a consultant for the TV series Un village français (France 3) and one of the historians who acted as a reviewer in the trial of Maurice Papon were.

He is the son of the poet Jean-Henri Azéma , who was sentenced in absentia as a collaborator and lived in exile in Argentina.
