Jean-Pierre Dikongué-Pipa (born 1940 in Douala ) is a Cameroonian director , writer and actor best known for his first feature film Muna Moto , which was the first full-length feature film to be produced in Cameroon.

life and work

Jean-Pierre Dikongué-Pipa came to film through the theater . He studied in Paris at the Cinema Conservatory (fr. Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français). His main work, Muna Moto , tells a love story that is complicated by the traditional custom of dowry . His film The Antilope Does Not Go Into the Trap (orig. Le Prix de la liberté) is also about the relationships between the sexes, here the sexual exploitation of women is at the center of the story. In 2019, at the age of 78, Jean Pierre Dikongué-Pipa was still working as a filmmaker, working on a film about Um Nyobe , a political leader in Cameroon, with the working title Sur le Chemin de Boumnyebel.

Jean-Pierre Dikongué-Pipa is featured in the 1983 documentary Caméra d'Afrique by Férid Boughedir - a film that was shown as a Cannes Classic at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 . To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Ouagadougou panafricain du cinéma et de la télévision Festival, a bronze statue was unveiled in Ouagadougou in recognition of his pioneering work in African film.
